The 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) will be a critical moment in time for international climate negotiations.
Join the Global Compact Network Australia (GCNA) and the Business Council for Sustainable Development Australia (BCSDA) as we explore how businesses can lead action on climate change ahead of COP26.
The latest analysis from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) shows that it is “unequivocal” that
human activity is heating the planet. Current commitments will not enable us to limit global warming to 1.5°C, and
the window to achieve this goal is rapidly closing. The science has spoken.
The past year has seen a considerable increase in global climate action, with net zero commitments from all G7 countries and ambitious policy announcements such as the European Union’s proposed Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism. However, there needs to be tangible commitments from all actors if we are to reach net zero emissions well before 2050. The International Energy Agency’s (IEA) Net Zero by 2050 report shows that achieving a 1.5°C future will only be possible through coordinated action between business, government and civil society.
It's not too late but we must act now,
and Australian business has a vital role to play as we transition our planet to a net zero future.
