The Power of Purpose over Profit | North West Coast Social Enterprise Meetup
Event description
Tasmania thrives on backing small businesses with big hearts. Purpose & Profit connects that Tasmanian spirit with the proven power of social enterprise - businesses that compete on value while directing profits to some of Tasmania's biggest challenges. If you’ve ever wondered how to turn everyday spending into lasting impact, this is your night.
How the event works (two parts):
Sector Networking (Social enterprises & supporters - INVITE ONLY)
Kick off with a practical, facilitated networking session for verified social enterprises, those on the path to verification, and ecosystem supporters. We'll share about interesting developments with the Social Enterprise Collective of Tasmania, how members can be more involved and the issues that matter to you too!
Public Conversation (Open to everyone) | 5:30 for a 5:45 pm start
Stay on for an engaging, plain‑English conversation about purpose and profit—what verification means, why it builds trust, and how families and businesses can buy for impact without paying a “purpose premium.” You’ll hear local stories, unpack simple decision tools, and leave with next steps you can use immediately.
What you’ll take away
Clarity: Social enterprise principles explained through the lens of verified practice—so you know what to look for when you buy.
Local insight: Short showcases from Tasmanian social enterprises—how every purchase compounds outcomes in our communities.
Actionable tools: A quick‑start buyer’s guide for households and a procurement checklist for businesses, plus connections you can follow up the next day.
Who should attend
Business owners & procurement teams: Meet verified suppliers, discover low‑friction ways to include social enterprises in BAU purchasing, and build your local vendor list.
Community members & families: Find practical ways to align everyday purchases with the changes you care about—coffee, catering, gifts, services and more.
Social enterprises & ecosystem partners: Strengthen relationships, compare notes on verification and reporting, and help shape a coherent Tasmanian voice for the sector.
Tickets: Registration is essential and seats are limited. Accessibility information and final timings will be confirmed in your ticket email.
