25S3 Session 1 - Freedom with Plato
Event description
What if the greatest obstacles to freedom aren’t outside us—but within?
In this opening session of the term, we turn to Plato’s enduring wisdom on the nature of tyranny—not political, but personal. With clarity and courage, he names the forces that quietly rule our inner world: anger, fear, desire, pleasure, pain, and jealousy.
Through presented material and discussion-based exploration, we’ll look at how these inner tyrants influence our choices, cloud our judgement, and bind our freedom. But more importantly, we’ll ask: what would it mean to be governed not by impulse, but by wisdom?
This is not just a philosophy class—it’s a call to self-inquiry.
To notice who’s really in charge inside.
To ask what a just inner life might look like.
