2hrs Group Workshop August
Event description
"Art can be said to be - and can be used as - the externalized map of our interior self." - Peter London -
We will use art to 'draw from within' using imagination, the inner world of images, feelings, thoughts, and ideas.
It is not necessary for you to be able to interpret your artwork - nor for me, the Creative Arts Therapist. The way that Art Therapy helps is through the actual making of art as you use your visual thinking skills to express what words can't, provide you with a sensory experience and tap into your 'felt sense' - your body's awareness of a situation, person, or event.
What you can expect
Safe, quiet, judgement-free surroundings.
All art materials are provided.
Comfortable surroundings.
Tea, coffee, and GF biscuits.
A group setting where you can share as much or as little as you like.
But I’m not an artist!
Neither am I! You don’t need to be. Arts therapy uses the arts to help you get out of your head and into your body. You make meaning via the artwork you create. You can see the meaning and that’s what is important. The ‘quality’ of the artwork is irrelevant.
You may experience emotional release through the piece of art you create. This visible product is yours to do with what you will, but if kept, allows you to deepen your understanding of your experience over the days that follow.
The group is set up as a safe container, enhancing life and building relationships.
Art making is possible for everyone because everyone has the ability to be creative through art - and in Arts Therapy the artwork is secondary to your personal experience of it.
Art has been called a "Way of Knowing", more than to communicate the self, but also to express our true selves.
Art + Therapy = Healing
“Life is about rhythm. We vibrate; our hearts are pumping blood. We are a rhythm machine, that’s what we are.”
– Mickey Hart, American Percussionist
Join me, Helen Nandlal, at my studio in the Perth Hills for a celebration of our inner selves. Over two hours you'll have the opportunity to explore your inner self. We'll have fun, and might get messy, so wear comfortable clothes.
I aim to provide a safe, secure environment at my studio. Light refreshments will be served.
