The Giving Series will feature insightful industry professionals in conversation - featuring speakers from our partners at Philanthropy Australia, The Australian Women Donors Network and Australian Environmental Grant Makers Network. Join us to hear how the overarching landscape of philanthropy has changed in Australia throughout 2020, the importance of gender analysis in philanthropy and how the philanthropic response to the COVID-19 crisis, bushfire recovery and to the other big environmental issues has a vital role to play in catalysing in long lasting environmental changes.
Together we will consider challenges and opportunities to create more impactful philanthropy and strengthen our community impact.

PHILANTHROPY IN AUSTRALIA, 2020
Sarah Davies OAM, CEO Philanthropy Australia
Amanda Miller, Co-Chair Philanthropy Australia, Deputy Chair Federal Government Social Impact Investing Taskforce and AJF member
Both charities and the philanthropic sector have been deeply impacted by Covid-19. This session, delivered by Philanthropy Australia CEO Sarah Davies and Co Chair Amanda Miller, will provide an overview of the likely impacts of Covid-19 on both charitable giving and on charities. It will look at data on how philanthropy has responded thus far to Covid-19, including by adapting grant making and operating approaches, varying distribution amounts, offering charities other forms of non-grant financial support, collaborating and engaging in advocacy.
A key role of Philanthropy Australia is advocating to the government on behalf of the philanthropic sector, and Sarah and Amanda will outline various policy approaches that might make a difference to support giving and charities. Finally, the session will look at what’s next for philanthropy - at how we can we build back better towards a new normal and grow more and better giving.

WOMEN, GIRLS & PHILANTHROPY
Julie Reilly, CEO Australian Women Donors Network
Tracie Olcha, CEO Australian Jewish Funders
The COVID-19 pandemic provides a powerful lesson on the importance of gender analysis. It’s clear that the social and economic impacts of this crisis are disproportionately impacting women. To be effective, the recovery effort will need to recognise and respond through a gender lens. Join us for a compelling conversation exploring the power of a gender lens to inform and amplify philanthropic impact.

PHILANTHROPY & THE ENVIRONMENT
Amanda Martin OAM, CEO Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network
Eytan Lenko, Board Director Australian Environmental Grantmakers Network, President Jewish Climate Network, President Beyond Zero Emissions and AJF member
The recent spring and summer bushfires had a devastating impact on many people, houses and infrastructure, millions of birds and animals, our health and on the Australia psyche. These events, as well as the recent drought and bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef, were brought about by several factors but mostly led by climate change. While the COVID epidemic may have shifted our focus, climate change is not going away.
Philanthropy has an incredibly important role to play in funding, investing and influencing. The AEGN and its members are working together with NGO partners and others to change the course of history in Australia and make sure our country signs up to 100% zero carbon emissions soon.
Amanda and Eytan will talk about how the AEGN operates, what philanthropy is doing about climate change and how people are using their time and talent to influence change.
