32nd New Zealand Microscopy Conference

Under the theme “Shaping the Future of Microscopy in Aotearoa New Zealand”, we warmly invite everyone involved in microscopy and microanalysis to attend our annual meeting.

This year, the conference will be held at the Pipitea Campus, Victoria University of Wellington, from 24-27 November 2026.

The conference aims to showcase advances in microscopy and microanalysis developed in New Zealand, covering a wide range of fields including biotechnology, materials science, environmental science, image analysis, artificial intelligence, data management, and homegrown technologies.

In addition, the programme will feature special interest workshops, including image analysis using QuPath, facility management, and a technology showcase.

Workshops

1) Image analysis workshop in QuPath, Full Day

This workshop will provide an introduction to image digitalisation and image analysis with QuPath software. Covering topics of familiarisation with QuPath,

2) Facility Operations Workshop, Full Day

This workshop is designed to empower both facility managers and staff with the knowledge and tools needed to optimise performance and support cutting-edge research. Through expert-led sessions and small group discussions, participants will explore key aspects of facility operations, technology, user support, and strategic planning.

3) Fluorescence Fluctuation Correlation Spectroscopy (FFCS)- Full Day

This one-day workshop provides an in-depth introduction to fluorescence fluctuation correlation spectroscopy (FFCS), with a particular focus on temporal and spatial image correlation approaches that can be implemented using standard light-microscopy data. The morning sessions introduce the theoretical foundations of temporal and spatial image correlation spectroscopy, followed by hands-on simulation and analysis of FFCS datasets to illustrate how molecular concentration, dynamics, and interactions can be quantitatively extracted from fluorescence fluctuations. In the afternoon, the workshop shifts toward practical considerations for applying FFCS and image correlation spectroscopy across different microscopy modalities, including confocal, widefield, TIRF, and light-sheet microscopy.

4) From 60nm to 600fps: Mastering Live-Cell Imaging with Multi-SIM X

Join Nikon’s NanoInsights Multi-SIM X workshop to discover more about this cutting-edge live-cell super-resolution technology. The Multi-SIM X reveals life’s secrets with super-resolution down to 60 nm, while enabling real-time 4-channel simultaneous detection at 600 fps. The combination of high-speed acquisition and multi-modality delivers low phototoxicity and supports extended observation times.

5) AXT Pty SEM Workshop- Full Day

Working with an SEM? Are you wondering about the quality of your SEM micrographs and their interpretation? Unsure how to choose the available SEM parameters for your job? This workshop is for you. Take a look underneath the SEM covers and learn how your SEM works and how to get the most out of your SEM work.

This SEM workshop is designed to provide essential knowledge about Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). It is split into 2 sections: Fundamentals (morning) and Advanced applications (afternoon).
