Stage 4&5 Physical World for Non-specialists

This interactive workshop is designed for non-physics or non-science-specialist and retraining teachers, to help them best deliver Stage 4 & 5 Physical World. (This is a repeat workshop).

In this workshop, teachers will:

  • Consider the place of Stage 4&5 Physical World in the K-12 science continuum
  • Explore the progression of Working Scientifically K-12 and understand its progression through Stages 4 & 5
  • Learn the Knowledge & Understanding for Stage 4&5 Physical World
  • Acquire appropriate and varied pedagogies for Stage 4&5 Physical World
  • Perform investigations for Stage 4&5 Physical World
  • Explore online resources to aid teaching and learning in Stage 4&5 Physical World

All teachers will walk away with a variety of resources to assist them in their teaching.

New Accreditation

Completing Preparing for the Stage 4&5 Physical World for Non-specialists will contribute 5 hours of NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum/Early Years Learning Framework addressing standard descriptor 2.1.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.​

We will also provide a Certificate of Completion for Graduate Teachers.

Workshop Delivered by Dr Simon Crook

Dr Simon Crook is a very experienced HSC Physics teacher and provider of Physics professional learning, with a PhD in Physics Educations Research (USyd) and a BSc (Hons) in Physics (Manchester). Simon has been working with many high schools and school systems to best prepare their teachers and students for HSC Physics and Stage 4&5 Physical World, including his regular client schools. In addition, Simon has been in regular dialogue with STANSW, NESA and The University of Sydney, as well as having articles published in The Conversation and Australian Physics, regarding the K-12 science syllabuses. As such, Simon is in the unique position of currently teaching to a wide variety of students while delivering many professional learning and student workshops around the different science syllabuses.
