Description
Biotextile Workshop
With Ellen Ferrier - part of 6Tamworth Textile Triennial - Nature Machine
Saturday 19 September 12- 2pm
Esther Halliday Studio, 466 Peel St
Join artist Ellen Ferrier for an interactive introduction to the emerging world of biotextiles. In this two-hour workshop, participants will learn how everyday natural materials can be transformed into innovative textile-like surfaces using simple, accessible recipes and techniques.
Working with ingredients including gelatin, vegetable glycerin, natural fibres, botanical pigments and locally sourced materials, you'll create your own biotextile samples while exploring the creative and environmental potential of bio-based material practices. Along the way, participants will gain insight into contemporary conversations around sustainability, regenerative design, waste reduction and the future of textile production.
Suitable for beginners and curious makers of all ages, this workshop offers a unique opportunity to experiment with colour, texture and form while learning practical techniques that can be continued at home or adapted into creative practice.
Participants will leave with their own handmade biotextile samples and a deeper understanding of how natural materials can be used to imagine more sustainable futures for textiles.
