In April, we'll dive back into the world of GlenAllachie, and see what they've been using to mature some of their whisky that's a bit out of the ordinary.  Every few years, we do a GlenAllachie vertical tasting: this enables us to compare the familiar "house style" with how different barrel ageing and finishing changes the flavour.

The Scotch whisky industry is always experimenting with different wood types, going way beyond the standard ex-bourbon and ex-sherry barrels that dominate the ageing process.  Scottish Oak and  Hungarian Oak are regional varieties of trees that are slightly different than standard European Oak, while Sauternes and Rioja finishes are former red and white wine barrels that previously held wine from France and Spain.   

Please join me on Tuesday, April 8th at 7:30pm at the Seatoun Clubhouse for this exploration of GlenAllachie and the intriguing wood that they are using to mature their whiskies.  Seats are $60 each.
