8 Ways Pedagogy
In 2009, Dr Tyson Kaawoppa Yunkaporta completed his Doctorate of Education with James Cook University answering two important questions. How can teachers engage with Aboriginal knowledge? How can teachers use Aboriginal knowledge productively in Schools? During his research, Yunkaporta discovered that it is not the learning content, but the way we work with it, that is essential to First Nations pedagogies.

The Department of Education now has custodianship of Yunkaporta’s 8 Ways research and is the official distributer of 8 Ways workshops for educators. Facilitators from the Department will be travelling to campus to deliver this workshop to the Faculty.
Workshop Attendees
8 Ways is a pedagogical philosophy that can be implemented across all levels of education programs and activities in our Faculty. Unit Coordinators, lecturers, tutors, School leaders and Professional staff who are currently involved or have future plans to become involved in Indigenising Projects are highly encouraged to attend. Budget has also been allocated to renumerate Faculty of Science casual staff members who wish to engage in this training.Â
It is recommended that staff attend this 1 hour overview session if they are interested in participating in the full two day training on 8 Ways pedagogy to be scheduled later in the year.
