Event description

Be a part of the effort to take a "snapshot" of water quality in our local water bodies!

Snapshot Water Monitoring Day volunteers are citizen scientists monitoring temperature, oxygen, transparency, bacteria, nitrate, phosphate, and pH levels. The valuable data collected by Snapshot Day volunteers is used to identify problem areas and drive action for clean water!

Monitoring sites vary from wetlands - to large streams - to small ditches through culverts on county roads. Sites have been assessed for their safety and difficulty to access - and we have a wide range for every ability!

Snapshot Water Monitoring Day is held by The Watershed Foundation with support from our partners; Kosciusko Soil and Water Conservation District, Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center, Lilly Center for Lakes & Streams, and the City of Warsaw.

The Watershed Foundation is an environmental nonprofit dedicated to protecting and improving water quality in the lakes and streams of the Upper Tippecanoe River Watershed.

Founded in 1997, our organization began as the Tippecanoe Environmental Lake and Watershed Foundation (TELWF). TELWF’s first volunteers were residents of Lake Tippecanoe who recognized that a larger vision of focusing on the entire watershed was necessary to protect all of our lakes. Soon after, TELWF became TWF: The Watershed Foundation.

Today, TWF works to protect water resources throughout the Upper Tippecanoe River Watershed, a land area that covers 236 square miles and contains over 60 lakes, numerous creeks and streams, and the Tippecanoe River.
