About the course
Social Return on Investment (SROI) is an internationally recognised approach for understanding and measuring the impacts of a program, organisation or policy. Through engaging with stakeholders, it is possible to identify the social, environmental and economic impacts generated, and place a financial value on this impact.
The course takes a practical and hands-on approach to providing you with the principles, method and tools needed to get started using SROI. It provides a step-by-step guide to conducting an SROI backed up by a range of practical group exercises.
Learners are provided with resources and templates to measure their social impact or conduct their own SROI analysis. While conducting an SROI is something that organisations typically do periodically, the components of an SROI – including stakeholder engagement, theory of change, collecting impact data and impact reporting – are used frequently.
This is your chance to learn from the leaders in social impact measurement. Think Impact’s training approach extends beyond the SROI methodology to introduce you to the tools and innovations tried and tested by our team of practitioners.
Completion of this course is a requirement for those wanting to become an SROI Accredited Practitioner. More information about becoming a Practitioner is available here.
Course structure
The course is delivered through sessions of online delivery, group discussions and practical exercises conducted in sessions and in your own time. The course is interactive and uses online classroom technology.
Learners attend all 4 of the following sessions:
- Wednesday 10 February, 1–5pm AEDT
- Tuesday 16 February, 1–5pm AEDT
- Friday 19 February, 1–5pm AEDT
- Wednesday 24 February, 1–5pm AEDT
Learners are encouraged to review resources such as articles, podcasts and videos that are shared in between the sessions.
The sessions will be recorded and made available for a month after the conclusion of the course, for a recap on the content or for review should you be unable to attend any session. Attendance at the majority of the sessions is required to obtain your certificate of completion. Group discussions and one-on-one feedback sessions will be available on demand for the duration of the course.

Some familiarity with skills such as program design, data collection and analysis or program reporting is beneficial. Pre-reading can be suggested for participants who wish to familiarise themselves with key concepts in advance of the course.
Your trainer
Rebecca Cain is an SROI Level 3 Advanced Practitioner and member of Social Value International’s panel of assessors for SROI report assurance and practitioner accreditation. She is one of Australia’s most experienced SROI practitioners and has conducted SROIs on topics as diverse as community housing, arts programs, youth justice, financial literacy, drug and alcohol programs and employment programs.
