A Camino Day in Canberra
Description
Ever wondered what a day on the Camino de Santiago feels like? Find out without leaving Canberra.
Join Jimmy and Yanina from Choose Your Own Camino for a pilgrim-style day walk around Lake Burley Griffin. We’ll walk the Bridge to Bridge loop up to four times, doing 20 km which is the length of a typical Camino day. There are café stops along the way, just like on the real thing. And places for lunch and a beer, also like the real Camino.
Choose your own distance
Walk 5km, 10km, 15km or the full 20km. Every lap passes the start, so you can finish whenever suits you.
How the day works
7:15am: meet at the flags by Lake Burley Griffin
7:30am: start walking
Around 10am: café stop after lap 2 (about 10 km)
Around 1pm: finish where we started, those wishing to stay for lunch and/or a drink can do so.
Wear yellow!
It’s the colour of the Camino’s waymarking arrows, and it helps everyone spot each other around the lake.
What to bring
Water bottle, hat and sunscreen
Comfortable walking shoes
Something yellow
Thinking about walking the Camino?
Bring your questions. Jimmy and Yanina have walked the routes and love talking all things Camino. That’s what the day is for.
We walk in light rain, just like pilgrims do. In extreme heat or storms, we’ll email everyone registered by Saturday evening with any changes. December mornings can warm up quickly, so bring plenty of water.
Kids and dogs
Kids are welcome when walking with a parent or guardian, and each child needs their own registration. Well-behaved dogs on a lead are welcome too.
Free to attend. Registration is essential so we can keep you updated on the day. Walking is at your own risk; please walk at a pace that suits you.
