ASTER: A Celebration of Singer-Songwriters

ASTER’s fall concert features choral settings of favorites by Dolly Parton, Carole King, CSNY, Joni Mitchell, Christina Perri, Taylor Swift, Melanie Safka and Stevie Wonder.

We are especially excited to introduce three of our own singer-songwriters to our audience.  Meghan Rodwell, Sara Giita Flores, and Sara Love will perform original songs.  They were inspired by seasons and seasoning, rainbows and blues and playing in a windy world.

Singer-songwriters date back to the days of the troubadours of the Middle Ages singing of courtly love and chivalry as they travelled from town to town living as composers in residence when favored by a particular court. 

The word “troubadour” is derived from the verb trobar, which means “to find” or “to invent”. Their original poems told personal stories, just like the singer-songwriters from the 1960s.
