Event description

The Bayside Peninsula Local Site Executive Committee consisting of Department of Families, Fairness and Housing, Department of Justice and Community Safety, Department of Education and Victoria Police welcome you to this collaborative workshop led by Professor Richard Rose

A little bit about Dr Richard Rose

As the Director of Therapeutic Life Story Work International (TLSWi) Richard seeks to engage with children affected by early life trauma and to help them achieve their full potential.  After more than 25 years Richard continues his direct work with children and young people. He also undertakes consultancy and training on Life Story Therapy and his expertise in working with 'hard to reach' children and adolescents informs his continuing development of academic training programmes for the UK and internationally.  Throughout his career, Richard has worked with children and their families in out of home care and within birth family placements, with the aim of enabling these placements to become healthy and nurturing.

Richard is a regular visitor to Australia where he is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Social Work and Social Policy at La Trobe University, Melbourne and Honorary Associate of the Berry Street, Melbourne. He is also an Honorary Associate of the Open Adoption Institute, University of Sydney. He is a regular visitor to the USA, where he presents for Portland State University, DHS Oregon and ORPARC (Adoption Services).

About the workshop

The workshop is part of the BPA commitments to embed a collective systems approach to reduce the number of children and young people reported missing from care. It will be an interactive opportunity to strengthen our shared understanding of trauma and collaborative practice when working with young people who are engaged in statutory and/or criminal justice services across the Bayside Peninsula Region

To get the most out of the day, it’s important that we consider such principles

  • We are prepared to engage

  • We recognise that different agencies bring expertise but also their own way of working

  • We maintain respect

  • We seek to understand and learn from one another

Given the nature of the subject, it’s important to practice good self-care techniques and if you are requiring assistance to reach out to your manager, contact your employment assistance service or Lifeline on 131114

The Victorian Government acknowledges Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people as the Traditional Custodians of the land and acknowledges and pays respect to their Elders, past and present
