A formula for success - efficiently building accessible pages with LaTeX and generative AI
Event description
To support the efficient and accessible use of symbols, formulae, and equations in Canvas pages, a number of tools and techniques can be adopted, making it possible to build pages without needing expertise in the subject.
This workshop is designed for anyone working on courses that use symbols of any type and promotes a learning design approach focused on both accessibility and interactivity within complex content. Interactive components briefly demonstrated in this workshop include checkpoint questions and H5P interactions.
Learning objectives
In this workshop, you will be supported to:
describe how LaTeX is used to create symbols and formulae in statistics, science, and mathematics
recognise the basic structure of LaTeX markup language and apply it to add symbols and simple formulae on a Canvas page
add simple LaTeX markup equations to a Canvas page effectively
apply efficient techniques, including MathPix and AI, to add complex formulae and equations to a Canvas page
convert entire documents containing formulae/equations into Canvas (Markdown) pages efficiently
evaluate interaction and accessibility considerations when using Canvas pages with LaTeX features.
