Histories & Mysteries: Ancient Egypt with Jade

Did you know the period we think of as Ancient Egypt actually lasted close to 3,000 years!? Which can make it a daunting history to study.

This crash course will give you an interesting foundation on the ancient civilisation of Egypt and its society, covering some of the well known names you may have encountered before (like King Tut) as well as some of those you may have not (like King Tut's father, Akhenaten).

This class is specially designed for beginners! So bring along your curiosity and any burning questions on ancient Egypt you might want to ask!

In this fascinating class we will look at: 

• The basic formation and organisation of ancient Egyptian society
• Chronology of ancient Egypt – what happened where and when
• Monuments, Temples, and Pyramids
• Notable Pharaohs
• Egyptian Hieroglyphs and Literature
• Where to find reputable information on the ancient world going forward

Who will be teaching? 

Jade Cotsanis (she/her) is a recent graduate from the University of Melbourne. She has just completed an Honours year where she focused on Egyptian and Mesopotamian literature.

Jade has spent the past four years learning the ins and outs of ancient Egypt, and even undertook a two year course on Egyptian hieroglyphs. She currently volunteers at the Australian Institute of Archaeology, where she has been learning how to create 3D models of ancient Egyptian artefacts.
