Showcasing First Nations Australians' Science in HE Curriculum
Description
Want to learn more on how to integrate First Nations perspectives and knowledges into science education?
Join us for a FREE in-person workshop based on A Guide for Curriculum Development: First Nations Australians’ Science, developed in collaboration with First Nations project team members and advisors, funded by ACDS.
This one-day workshop is part of a national tour delivered by the project team - Assoc/Prof Angela Ziebell (WIL and Chemistry), Deakin University will present this session.
During the workshop, you will:
Explore the curriculum development guide
Review case studies across science-related disciplines
Learn practical approaches to embedding First Nations perspectives in science teaching
By the end, you will feel more confident in developing culturally relevant and appropriate science content and activities, enriching learning experiences for all students.
The workshop will also introduce Envirocare, a series of cultural competence modules developed prior to the guide but useful as a compliment, targeted to both staff and students in STEM.
In the latter part of the workshop, Dr Rebecca Cross, Dr Matthew Pye and Assoc/Prof Tina Bell (USYD) will launch their ACDS funded Guidelines for Designing Cultural Immersions that outlines key considerations and steps for generating transformative, relational cultural immersions in higher education.
Come along to improve your understanding on how to apply cultural competency in the curriculum and to join in knowledge sharing discussions to enrich your teaching and learning.
This event will be located in the Dry Teaching Lab 1502, Charles Perkins Centre (CPC)
