A Halloween Ghost Hunt at Old Government House - 31/10/25
Event description
🎃 HALLOWEEN GHOST HUNT at OLD GOVERNMENT HOUSE 🎃
Friday 31 October 2025 | 7:00pm – 9:30pm
Old Government House, Parramatta Park
This Halloween, abandon all logic and willingly step inside one of Australia’s oldest and eeriest buildings — because apparently we’ve learned nothing from horror films.
Old Government House isn’t just a heritage-listed Georgian mansion built by convict labour between 1799 and 1818 — it’s a place where whispers echo down empty halls, shadows move when they shouldn’t, and cold spots turn up with no explanation (other than the obvious: ghosts).
But this isn’t a nice, safe history tour where someone tells you spooky stories by candlelight. Oh no. This is an interactive ghost hunt, and you’re the ghost bait — sorry, we mean investigator. You’ll join small groups, use real paranormal equipment, and explore areas of the house not usually open to the public. If time permits, you’ll even get some free-roaming time… in the dark… completely unsupervised. We trust you. Ish.
💀 DISCLAIMER: This is a Halloween event. There WILL be jump scares. You will scream, possibly cry, and almost definitely clutch a stranger. If you’ve got a heart condition, a weak bladder, or a delicate constitution, consider sitting this one out.
Strictly 18+ (for obvious reasons)
Wear sensible shoes and bring a torch — the ghosts are not responsible for stubbed toes
Rain, hail or demonic possession — the event goes ahead
Old Government House has stood tall for over two centuries. Let’s see if you can last two and a half hours…
Notable Residents:
Governor John Hunter (1799-1800): Commissioned the original construction of the house, replacing Governor Arthur Phillip's initial cottage.
Governor Lachlan Macquarie (1810-1821): Along with his wife, Elizabeth, expanded and transformed the residence into an elegant Palladian-style home, reflecting their vision for the burgeoning colony.
Governor Charles FitzRoy (1846-1855): His tenure was marked by personal tragedy when his wife, Lady Mary FitzRoy, died in a carriage accident near the house in 1847.
