A little known Grampians Gem - Teddy Bear Gap Loop - Grade 3 (Medium)
Event description
The Grampians Bushwalking Club invites you to join them on a lesser known Grampians Gem, the Teddy Bear Gap Loop. This walk is part of the Try Bushwalking Month, celebrating the 90th Anniversary of Bushwalking Victoria, the peak body representing 60+ bushwalking clubs across Victoria.
This walk takes you on a circuit up onto the Serra range and then returning to the wannon river valley. You can enjoy the views of the Victoria and Mount William Ranges through the trees while you are walking inside the tranquil forest. The area hosts wildflowers, especially orchids, and a wide range of interesting rock formations. There are occasional steps and hills, but a moderate amount of fitness is enough to complete the trail.
DISTANCE: 7 km Loop walk that will take 2hrs 30 mins to 3hrs 45mins
WHO IS THIS WALK FOR? Introductory track walk suitable for beginners with good level of fitness.
CHILDREN AND PETS: This walk is for adults 18 years and over, and due to the nature of the walk, we ask you to leave dogs and other pets at home. Please contact the club directly to inquire about service animals, and any family or pet friendly walks.
AWT GRADE 3 (Medium): Suitable for most ages and fitness levels. Tracks may have short steep sections, a rough surface and many steps. Although a short walk this walk has an initial steep climb of 330m including steps. Some downhill road walking and 4 WD track walking. AWT Grade information.
PACE: Slow and steady on the uphill, ridge track is uneven, the road and trail we will set a steady pace.
TOTAL ASCENT: 330 m. steep, short track.
WALK DESCRIPTION:
Starting from Jimmy Creek Campground we cross the Wannon river via a bridge and climb a well-marked but steep track up onto the Serra Range. The track then undulates along the ridgeline North with views to the West and East. At Teddy Bear Gap we use the Serra road to drop down to the Ingleton firetrail which follows the contour on the lower slope back to Jimmys Creek camp. Lunch will be on the track. water is available at the start and end of walk.
MEETING POINT: VIC SES building, 33 Sloane St, Stawell. Walkers will meet in Stawell, and carpool/convoy to the start point. Closer alternative meeting points can be negotiated with the walk leader.
DIRECTIONS: Google map: SES Stawell. From the meeting point we will carpool and travel in convoy to the start location.
PHONE SIGNAL: There may be locations on the walk where phone signal may not be available especially with carriers other than Telstra.
TOILETS: Toilets are available at the start and end of walk.

ABOUT OUR CLUB: The Grampians Bushwalking Club is a small friendly club where new members are welcome. We have daywalks fortnightly and often end our walks at a coffee shop. We mostly walk in western Victoria with the Grampians being our regular destination. Base camps and longer trips further afield are usually planned at least annually.
