A Morning with the Flying Foxes
Event description
Glide down town to experience a nationally recognised breeding colony of grey-headed flying foxes, a threatened species vital to healthy ecosystems. These frugivorous (fruit-eating) bats earn their ‘night-time gardeners’ nickname by pollinating plants and dispersing seeds.
Bendigo Nature Club is celebrating our flying foxes, perfect for viewing during their daylight rest. At this time, some mothers are even still carrying their young.
We’ll observe the flying foxes at close range, focusing on their significance in the unique landscape. (Take along your binoculars for a better view - we'll have some to share too.) There'll be opportunities for kids to have their questions answered and chat with members of the Central Victorian Bat Alliance (CVBA).
Book now for a special glimpse into this unusual animal world.
