You Had Me at Black is a home for our stories, our storytelling, and ourselves.

We first arrived in 2016 to pass the mic to everyday Black folks to tell true-life stories in their own words. Today, we are evolving into a home for our stories that's stewarded and supported by our community.

I have a vision for You Had Me at Black that feels like something we can live inside of and grow up with. Where the podcast is on in the background while you make dinner. Where stories get passed between friends the same way we pass around music or inside jokes. Where you can pick up a zine or a yearbook and see yourself reflected in it. Where we’re gathering more often as a ritual. Kickbacks during the week. Festivals in the summertime. Spaces where we are the center of the universe.

And of course there are so many ways this can expand – onto the screen, into print, into things we haven’t even named yet. But more than anything, I want it to feel like something that belongs to us. Something that connects us to ourselves and to each other through our stories, wherever we are in the world.

To make this work, what if You Had Me at Black goes from something made for us to something built by us? If our fans evolved from listeners to villagers? Part of what will make this possible is the Patron's Circle.

On May 18 its doors will open. This Assembly is a chance to learn about:

• What the Patron's Circle will make possible

• How to participate when the doors open
