Event description

TWO SHOWS ONLY - Friday 28th November & Saturday 28th November

'A Property of the Clan' is an Australian play by Nick Enright thatexplores the aftermath of a young girl's murder, focusing on the emotional and social effects on her peers and the wider community.Written in response to real-life events in NSW in 1989, it examines themes like peer pressure, victim-blaming, and masculinity, and was later adapted into the film Blackrock.

The play investigates the complex emotions and social dynamics that arise after a violent crime, including peer pressure, how society deals with sexual assault and violence against women, and the challenges of adolescence. 'A Property of the Clan' is known for its honest and intelligent portrayal of tragic events and its ability to provoke discussion on contemporary issues.

The story follows Jared who is finishing Grade 12, has a girlfriend, loves surfing and is just figuring life out. His best mate Ricko comes home from surfing comps in Queensland and throws the beach party bash of the year. Little does Jared know that he is about to witness something that will change his life forever. When Tracey Warner gets attacked and killed at that same party, the small beach town of Blackrock is flipped upside down. Who is to blame? The boys who took advantage of her? Onlookers who could have stopped it? Parents and the community? Or was Tracey herself to blame?

This performance makes reference to sexual violence, has course language and deals with themes of grief and loss. Please ensure that audience members are of approapriate, mature age and have supervision to ensure that the context is followed by educational discussion.
