A reconstructing faith: the journey of a lifetime (lecture by Rev Dr Keith Mascord)
Event description
You're warmly invited to an afternoon of thoughtful engagement and theological reflection at the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture.
Rev. Dr Keith Mascord will be delivering a lecture entitled: A Reconstructing Faith: the journey of a lifetime, followed by questions and discussion.
Join us at 2pm on Saturday 16 August at the Chambers Pavilion, 15 Blackall St Barton ACT 2600.
Rev. Dr Mascord has journeyed through five careers, including lecturing in philosophy and pastoral theology at Moore Theological College in Sydney on his way to retirement and the writing of his most recent book, An Honest Faith: the possible friendship of Athens and Jerusalem (2025). He has been an advocate for women’s and LGBTIQ+ equality. He continues in Christian ministry (in an honorary capacity) at St John’s Anglican Parish in Taree. He is well known and respected across the Australian Anglican Church and beyond.
This event will be hosted by the ACC&C, with Rev. Dr Wayne Brighton serving as MC. There will be a 50 minute lecture by Keith, in which he will draw upon An Honest Faith, and on his earlier two books, A Restless Faith: leaving fundamentalism in a quest for God (2012) and Faith without Fear: risky choices facing contemporary Christians (2016). In his lecture, Keith will tell his own story of faith – a story of simultaneous faith deconstruction and reconstruction.
A Q&A session will follow the lecture, offering ample space for dialogue and reflection.
Keith’s work is grounded in vigorous research, pastoral and academic experience, advocacy, and a commitment to social justice. He is particularly interested in the interface between the inquisitive and questing spirit of philosophy and also science and Christian faith. His reflections on the decline of Christianity in the West and the future of Anglicanism in Australia and globally offer a timely contribution to ecumenical and public theology.
Books will be available for purchase following the formal program.
We look forward to welcoming you.
