A Sound Like Thunder by Doppelgangster
Event description
“This is where the river used to be. You’ll have to imagine the river.”
A Sound like Thunder is an hilarious and experimental show about meteors, UFOs, and buried gold in a fictional town called Shepparton.
On the site of a now gone little corner of the Goulburn river, at the Shepparton Senior Citizens' Centre, behind a line of striped Do-Not-Cross tape, Doppelgangster (Australia/UK) reenact the the first ‘Play’ staged in Shepparton (1869) (or is it 1969?) (or is it 2069?) with riotous stage trickery, official and unofficial historical records, and both ends of a pantomime cow.
It’s antihistorical reproduction theatre and nothing will get in the way of a good story.
A Sound like Thunder has been written specifically for Shepparton Festival 2025, and specifically for this spot, right here.
You might have seen Tobias and Kerith Manderson-Galvin in The Midnight Horrors walking performance “Dawn Chorus / Dusk Chorus” at Shepparton Festival in 2023.
Doppelgangster have been called ‘Wildly experimental and wildly entertaining’ (Daily Review), and ‘Theatrical saboteurs’ (The Age). They have toured throughout Australia, UK, and Europe; putting on shows from laneways to galleries; major theatres to back porches; from a bowls club in Brisbane, to a concrete underground vault in London, to Paris’ Grande Palais.
