Description

Discover Afghan Cuisine!

Your host will be Yalda Ghaznawi from Afghanistan. Yalda moved from Afghanistan to Indonesia with her family before moving to Ashburton in 2023. While living in Indonesia, she owned a restaurant called Whole Village Food, where she prepared fresh food and delivered it to customers.

Under Yalda’s guidance, attendees will make and enjoy eating Qabili Pilau: A traditional Afghan rice dish made with tender lamb, carrots and raisins. It is known for its delicious flavour and is often served at family gatherings, celebrations and special occasions. Qabili Pilau is one of Afghanistan’s most loved dishes and represents the warmth and hospitality of Afghan culture.

For dessert we will make Halwa: A traditional Afghan sweet made with flour, sugar and cardamom. It is enjoyed with family and friends, especially during gatherings and special occasions. Its sweet flavour and warm aroma make it a special part of Afghan food traditions.

Yalda has chosen dishes that reflect Afghan cuisine and the food traditions she grew up with. She is looking forward to sharing not only the food but also Afghan culture, family traditions and the importance of hospitality.

Why not come along, discover new recipe ideas, learn about Afghan culture and enjoy preparing and sharing a lovely meal together with others!
