A Taste of Terroir Champagne Tasting: Montagne de Reims
Event description
Dive into the incredible terroir of the Montagne de Reims for the night with this beautiful champagne tasting hosted by Emperor's Head Sommelier, Kyri.
The Montagne de Reims lies between the Marne and the Vesle Rivers, forming a unique broad plateau, mostly covered by forest, while vines are planted on its flanks. The terroir is spectacular as vineyards are growing on limestone slopes and steep valleys with ideal sun exposure.Â
Unlike its siblings Côte des Blancs, Côte des Bar and Vallée de la Marne, the Montagne de Reims shows an equal diversity of grape, with 41% Pinot Noir, 34% Pinot Meunier and 25% Chardonnay planted. Some of its most famous villages are: Verzy (Mouzon-Leroux), Verzennay, Villers-Marmery (A. Margaine), Bouzy (Benoit Lahaye, Paul Bara), Ambonnay (Jacques Selosse, Krug, Benoit Marguet), and Ludes (Huré Frères).Â
The region produces robust wines with a crisp palate and a fragrant nose — qualities that give Champagne wines their backbone.

A Taste of Terroir Series will take you to the region of Champagne, one of the most expensive and protected lands in the world. Only wines made with fruits from the region and following the Méthode Champenoise can be called champagnes. The region is divided into four growing areas: Côte des Bar, Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims, and Vallee de la Marne. In our Series, we will take you on a journey discovering each region and its treasures.
