Event description

The Judith Neilson Institute and Rappler are excited to bring you the first Australian screening of the critically acclaimed documentary film, A Thousand Cuts.

Journalist and 2021 Nobel Prize laureate Maria Ressa is a top target of Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and his crackdown on news media.

As Duterte wages his war on drugs and press freedom with violence and extreme policies, director Ramona S. Diaz follows Ressa as she defiantly puts her life on the line to hold him to account.

Don’t miss this special screening of A Thousand Cuts on the eve of Ressa’s Nobel Prize ceremony in Oslo.

In the age of misinformation and social media manipulation, this is a must-see film about power, democracy, the fourth estate, and a cheerful hero.

This screening is presented in partnership with Rappler, the independent Philippine news outlet founded by Maria Ressa.

Refreshments provided.

Please bring your proof of vaccination.
