A Tribute to Django Reinhardt & Stephane Grappelli
Event description
After selling out their 2019 Stéphane Grappelli and Django Reinhardt tribute shows and performances at the National Gypsy Jazz Festival OzManouche, Hobart’s Hot Club heroes Django’s Tiger Quartet return from hibernation for one night only—and they’re bringing with them a deeper, sharper, more dazzling version of their signature sound.
On Thursday, September 12 at the Moonah Arts Centre, this exceptional Tasmanian quartet will breathe new life into the Parisian swing of the 1930s, reimagining the timeless music of Reinhardt and Grappelli with newly refined arrangements, expanded repertoire, and the irresistible charm that made them local favourites.
Featuring:
Felicity Lovett – percussive, propulsive rhythm guitar
Harry Edwards – virtuosic lead guitar with effortless flair
Charlie McCarthy – lush, lyrical violin in the Grappelli tradition
Isaac Gee – vibrant and inventive double bass
Expect fiery solos, velvet-smooth ballads, and toe-tapping swing—all delivered with the heart and humour that define Django’s Tiger. This isn’t just a concert—it’s a celebration of Hot Club heritage: fun, beautiful, and utterly engaging.
If you love gypsy jazz, live string music, or just want to witness world-class musicianship in an intimate setting, don’t miss this one-off performance.
Why You Need to Be at This Gig:
1. A Once-in-a-Blue-Moon Reunion of Hobart’s Gypsy Jazz Legends
Django’s Tiger hasn’t performed this full tribute show since their sell-out concerts in 2019. This is a rare, one-night-only event – no encore, no repeats. It’s a chance to hear the original lineup, tighter and more inspired than ever.
2. Refined, Beautiful, and Joyful Hot Club Swing
Expect sizzling solos, gorgeous ballads, and toe-tapping rhythms in the true spirit of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli. The band has deepened the repertoire and elevated the arrangements to offer something truly special: part concert, part celebration.
3. A Night of Pure Fun and Musical Magic
Whether you’re a jazz aficionado or just love live music that feels alive, this show is for you. It’s engaging, emotional, and full of warmth—perfect for date night, a night out with friends, or a solo music-lover’s escape into vintage Parisian joy.
