Event description

The takayna/Tarkine wilderness area is in the north west corner of lutruwita/Tasmania. It is not just an ancient cool temperate rainforest, but a unique and diverse landscape that remains unprotected and endangered by the logging and mining industries. This remote wilderness is bordered by the Arthur River to the north, the Pieman river to the south, the Murchison Highway to the east, and the western coastline. We will experience all facets of this landscape by foot, boat and kayak. The ancient rainforests, buttongrass moorlands, higher altitude mountains and mountain lakes, remote waterfalls, and the otherworldly, and extremely culturally significant, western coastline.

Wilder Boundaries pays respect to the original and traditional owners, the tarkiner people, who once inhabited the western coastline of the Tarkine. It is a deeply rich area of cultural significance and still very much alive today. We aim to tread carefully along this special place and acknowledge the cultural significance and past and current day connections with the Tasmanian Aboriginal community
