A+W NZ Wikiproject - Walking Tour & Edit-a-thon
Event description
A+W NZ is running a two-part event Saturday 20th May as part of the New Zealand Women in Architecture WikiProject. Women only make up 19% of biographies on English Wikipedia and there are currently only nine women listed in the “New Zealand women architects” section. Inspired by the new book Making Space, this project hopes to help fill the gaps of historical knowledge in the digital realm and increase the visibility of prolific female Architects.Â
Part one of the event entails a walking tour of significant buildings in Auckland, where women have had a significant role in the project, to collect photos. These photos can help improve existing and future pages. We will be kicking off at 10am sharp from Daldy Street Park and making our way towards the Auckland Museum. Bring some water, your phone/camera, and comfortable shoes!
The second part will be an edit-a-thon, hosted by the Auckland Museum. All experience levels, even brand new beginners, are welcome to join! We will be providing lunch between events and there will be training for new editors. Please bring your own laptop/tablet if you have one.
All are welcome to attend one or both parts of the event. Visit our website for more details on the walking tour route.Â
Concurrent editing events will be held in Ōtepoti Dunedin and online for the rest of Aoteoroa. Help us fill the gaps!
Thank you to Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand, and the Auckland War Memorial Museum for their support for this event.
