A+W•NZ x Wikipedia Walking Tour + Edit-a-Thon
Event description
As part of the 2025 NZIA Festival of Architecture, Architecture Women NZ invites you to a special day celebrating the pioneering women who shaped Aotearoa’s architectural history.
The day begins with a journey into the University of Auckland Cultural Collections, shining a spotlight on archival material that reveals the stories of women in architecture. We’ll then gather at Auckland University of Technology for a collaborative Wikipedia edit-a-thon, where participants will work together to expand and enrich entries to better reflect this legacy.
Women currently make up only 20% of biographies on Wikipedia, and in 2022 there were just nine women listed under New Zealand women architects. Since then, the New Zealand Women in Architecture WikiProject has been working to change that – celebrating the mahi of women and non-binary people whose contributions continue to shape our built environment. Architecture Women NZ is proud to partner once again with Wikimedia Aotearoa New Zealand and Tāmaki Paenga Hira Auckland Museum to continue this important work.
Food will be provided – please bring your own editing device (a laptop is recommended). All skill levels welcome, with beginner tutorials available.
