Description

A Walk with the Wading Birds

Join us at Cooney Reserve for a talk and walk to one of the largest wading bird roosts in Tauranga Harbour. Learn about the birds that rely on this special habitat and how climate change is affecting the places they call home.

About the event

We’ll visit the roost and learn about the hundreds of godwits, oystercatchers, terns, pied stilts and other birds that depend on this important coastal habitat. We’ll also explore how rising sea levels and climate change are affecting our native forests, and what these changes could mean for our communities and local economy.

After the walk, we’ll come back together at the reserve to talk about what we can do to help protect these places and the wildlife that depends on them.
