Travel instructions
A11y Camp will take place in the Cockle Bay rooms on Level 3 of the Sydney International Convention and Exhibition Centre, also called ICC Sydney. You can get to ICC Sydney by car or public transport. By Metro ICC Sydney is about a 15 minute walk from Central or Gadigal Station. By Light rail The Convention and Exhibition stops on the Dulwich Hill L1 line are the closest to ICC Sydney. By bus ICC Sydney has its own bus stop. Bus routes 389 and 501 stop at Harris Street near Allen Street, a 10-minute walk from ICC Sydney. By Ferry You can take a ferry to Darling Harbour from Circular Quay, with direct services to King Street Wharf or Pyrmont Bay Wharf. Captain Cook Cruises also operates services between Darling Harbour Convention Wharf, Barangaroo King Street Wharf No. 1, and Circular Quay. By Water Taxi A water taxi is a convenient way to reach Darling Harbour. They depart from The Rocks, Circular Quay, The Opera House, and Luna Park. By Taxi, Rideshare, or Drop-off The best taxi and ride share drop off and pick up for ICC Sydney’s Convention Centre is located on the northern end of Darling Drive in Iron Wharf Place, opposite of Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour.
Entry instructions
The main entrance to the Convention Centre, also called the “Ceremonial Doors”, is located on the ground floor. The customer service desk is located inside these doors. If you are arriving from another ICC Sydney entrance, follow the signs to the Convention Centre and look for directions to the Cockle Bay rooms.
After entry instructions
Once you reach the Convention Centre entrance, you will need to access Level 3 where the Cockle Bay rooms are located. A11y Camp signage will be displayed, and we are happy to orientate anyone through the venue.
Hazards
There will be a lot of people at this event. This is a risk because of COVID-19 and other viruses. Having many people around could also be a hazard in terms of navigating spaces. If you need space away from other people, you can go downstairs to the ICC lobby or outside the lobby where there is seating and a grassed area on the right of the building or use our quiet room. If you have a food allergy or need other types of special food, please let us know in advance. These meals will be served in a special area so that people can find them easily. If you can’t find this area, please ask someone at the registration desk or the catering staff. If you see other hazards or think we missed something here, please let us know.
Toilet location
An accessible toilet is located near the Cockle Bay Rooms. The Changing Places is located on Level 2 of Exhibition Centre.
Accessible parking
Car Park 1 (P1) is the closest car park to the Cockle Bay rooms where A11y Camp is being held. It is located on the ground floor of Exhibition Centre. There are 8 accessible car spaces in P1.
Wheelchair access
ICC Sydney has step-free and lift/elevator access throughout the venue.
Assisted hearing
The Cockle Bay rooms use IR “infra-red” hearing augmentation systems which provide access via a neck-loop (personal induction loop) or lightweight headset. Complimentary hearing augmentation devices (receivers) are available and can be provided to you free of charge with a form of photo identification.
Vision impairment
Braille is provided on all room door signage and fixed directional signage throughout the venue. There is tactile flooring at main entryways, staircases, and escalators.
Assistance animals
Assistance animals are welcome at ICC Sydney and A11y Camp. ICC Sydney requests their identification badge or medallion be easily visible. There is a suitable area for toileting nearby and we can direct you to it. We are happy to orientate anyone in the building. To maximise comfort for handler and animal, we suggest you contact the A11y Camp team at camp@a11ybytes.org to make sure we’ve set up the seating space in a way that allows easy access.
Quiet room
ICC Sydney has a quiet room located on Ground Floor of the Convention Centre, near the Customer Service desk. A11y Camp will provide an additional quiet room/chillout space near the Cockle Bay rooms on Level 3.
Hidden Disability Sunflower
ICC Sydney is a Hidden Disability Sunflower friendly venue. A11y Camp recognises the Hidden Disability Sunflower. Please don’t hesitate to approach A11y Camp staff if you need some extra help.
Conference content
Auslan interpretation and Live Captioning will be available. Please let us know if through the registration process if you require Auslan interpretation. Speakers will be advised on how to make their presentations as accessible as possible, including using high-contrast colours.
Companion Cards
A11y Camp accepts Companion Cards and will provide free registration for your support person. When you register for A11y Camp, you will be able to indicate if you require a companion ticket in accessibility requirements.
What else will happen on the day?
We will put a program with all the events for the day on our website and send it to all registered attendees. When you arrive, there will be a chance to talk to other attendees. There will also be breaks for morning tea, afternoon tea, and lunch. These breaks will have food and drinks provided. This is a community event, so people will usually be open to meeting and getting to know other people. It’s okay to approach other people and introduce yourself if they are not already busy in another conversation or on their phone. There will be a short session concluding the day, but it’s okay to leave the event at any point during the day. There is no sign-out process, you can just leave when you are ready.
Dietary requirements
When you register for A11y Camp Australia, you will be able to indicate your dietary requirements which we will communicate to the catering company. Meals compatible with dietary restrictions will be served from a special area so that people can find them easily. If you can’t find this area, please ask one of our staff or the catering staff. Can I attend the conference virtually?
Yes, there will be virtual access to A11y Camp Australia 2026. Virtual tickets are now available. It will be hosted on a Zoom Events based platform. If you have any questions, please email camp@a11ybytes.org.
