As decarbonisation roadmaps become reality, we expect to see biogas and heat pumps to be the most utilised tools for decarbonising heating systems.  Please join us to see the solutions in action and speak with the experts whilst meeting with other passionate decarbonising professionals. 

Our single day site tour will see heat pump installations, cogeneration and Griffith’s biogas research centres that are helping to develop this industry.

The tour will be hosted by A2EP CEO, Jarrod Leak. Lunch and other refreshments will be provided and covered by the tour cost. The tour will also be a great networking opportunity with end-users, suppliers, government, and consultants in attendance.

Giffith Biogas plant is the first research and development facility in Australia that can convert biomass into biogas and upgrade it to compressed biomethane (bioCNG) for vehicle use. The pilot-scale biogas plant is available for use by industry and research partners to optimise anaerobic digestion process for various organic wastes originating from agriculture, industry and municipalities. 

The Griffith pilot-scale biogas plant has been funded by the Australian Renewable Energy Agency. The facility consists of 4 x 1.2 m3 stainless steel completely stirred tank reactors (CSTRs), 20 m3 biogas storage system, 10 m3/h raw biogas upgrading unit, 3-stage gas compressor, bioCNG filling station (gas to cylinders and vehicle) and 2 x 50L bioCNG storage cylinder.

Pimpama Sports Hub Aquatic Centre

Pimpama Sports Hub

The Pimpama Sports Hub, operated by the City of Gold Coast, is now equipped with a 360kW 2G Agenitor 408 Cogeneration unit and eight EvoHeat CS-GEN2 heat pumps to maintain an ideal temperature for all five of its pools year-round.

These pools include an indoor 25 metre pool heated to 27 degrees, an indoor learn-to-swim pool heated to 31 degrees, an indoor warm water therapy pool heated to 34 degrees, an outdoor 50-metre pool heated to 27 degrees, and an outdoor children's water play area also heated to 27 degrees.

The Aquatic Centre's eight EvoHeat commercial grade pool heat pumps have been installed to provide energy-efficient heating throughout the year, maintaining optimal pool water temperature for the facility's users while minimizing operating costs and carbon emissions.

Loganholme Wastewater Treatment Plant constructed in 1983 is the largest of four wastewater treatment plants in Logan City and third largest in South East Queensland. Located approximately 30 km south of Brisbane.

EBBE group is a nationally and international recognised research and consultancy group that focuses on developing innovative and advanced bioprocesses for conversion of biomass to biogas, biohydrogen, bioethanol, biochemicals and biofertilizers in a circular bioeconomy concept. The group has modern facilities and analytical equipment for conducting research in biomass characterisation, biomass pretreatments, microalgal cultivation, biogas cleaning and upgrading to biomethane, biogenic carbon dioxide capture and utilisation, and integration of renewable hydrogen with biogas process.   

In collaboration with industry and research partners, EBBE has been developing new bioprocesses for use of wide range of biomass feedstocks from Sugar industry (Sugarcane bagasse, Trash, Mill mud, Molasses and Rum Distillery Wastewaters), Rendering Plant Wastewaters, Livestock Manures, Agricultural Crop residues, Sewage sludge, Red Meat Industry and Energy Crops (Sweet Sorghum).
