This 90-minute webinar will offer practical information to help build your confidence in how to support students who use alternative forms of communication such as communication devices, iPad's with communication software, sign language, or picture symbols.
We will be covering how to support language and communication for students who are finding developing speech to be tricky. It is also appropriate for students who are in the early stages of communication development.
There will be time for question and answers throughout the session.

Learning Objectives
- Understand the importance of modelling the use of AAC
- Be able to consider at least 3 different ways to plan for AAC modelling
- Be aware of at least one way to note a student's communication modes and functions
- List at least 3 practical ways to support AAC use as a communication partner
- Describe ways how to model language during shared book reading and share writing

Presenter Bio
Shannon Hennig is a registered speech-language therapist who specialises in neurodiversity, inclusive education practice, assistive technology, and communication challenges. She has wealth of knowledge around how to support young people with language and communication needs. She previously has worked as a teaching aide herself and has 20 years of experience working in classrooms in both primary and secondary. She is known for providing informative PLD content that emphasises practical strategies that can immediately be put into practice.
