What:
Eco-philosopher Joanna Macy PhD was a scholar of deep ecology, Buddhism, and general systems theory. A respected voice in movements for peace, justice, and the environment, she interwove her scholarship and activism for over six decades, both in her writings and in her trainings all over the world. Joanna passed away last month at her home in California at the age of 96.
An elder of the Deep Ecology movement and founder of the Work that Reconnects, Joanna co-authored the book "Active Hope: How to Face the Mess We are in with Unexpected Resilience & Creative Power" with Chris Johnstone. This has inspired Active Hope workshops and study groups around the world.
"Active Hope is waking up to the beauty of life on whose behalf we can act. We belong to this world.” (Joanna Macy)
This Learning Circle will explore Joanna Macy's concept of Active Hope and how it applies to us as Environmental Educators. We will share some interactive Deep Ecology practices to expand our tool box as educators in these tricky times.
