"Are you ready to regenerate?"

Join us for an online viewing and discussion of this refreshingly upbeat, inspirational film. Hear from our Climate Leadership team about what this film means to them and join in a discussion on how we can build on the ideas presented in it.

"What would Australia look like by 2030 if we simply listened to the needs of its people?

Film Synopsis

Regenerating Australia is a 17-minute short film based on a four-month interview process with a diverse group of Australians who shared their hopes and dreams for the country's future. It is a new story for our nation: a story of empowerment. A story of solutions. A story of regeneration.

Set on New Year's Eve of December 2029, a news anchor is ending the nightly bulletin
with a look back at the decade 'that could be’. A decade that saw Australia transition to a fairer, cleaner, more community focused economy. The film is a construction of hypothetical news reports and press conferences featuring real journalists, politicians, business leaders and citizens -
featuring Kerry O’Brien, Sandra Sully, Tim Flannery, Larissa Behrendt, David Pocock and other well-known voices.

Our visual effects team has brought to life the greener, more vibrant cities and communities that our interviewees are asking for. We see what a high-speed rail net work connecting regional areas and cities would look like and what large-scale wind, solar, battery and hydrogen projects would do for hundreds of thousands of employees. They show the impacts of landscapes coming to life when regenerative agriculture and reforestation programs combine with Indigenous knowledge and fire ecology to bring more people back onto the land.

This ‘mocked-up’ look back at this critical decade is full of hope and aspiration, mapping out a pathway for change that can lead us to a more sustainable future. But it is a muscular hope, as each news event is grounded in the research and modelling of several organisations that have been examining and advocating for such a transition."

Background
Since declaring a Climate Emergency in 2019, AAEE NSW has been shifting focus to the biggest environmental education issue defining our future - climate change. Last year we adopted a Climate Emergency Response Plan to support environmental educators, professionals, volunteers and activists create change in their communities. Communicating about climate change is the most important thing we can do and because AAEE NSW has been communicating and engaging with communities about our environment since 1976, we are here to support you to do this critical work. See our Climate Crisis Resource Hub for details on our response, including the below resource, Ten Communication Tips to Change the Climate Story
