Aboriginal Cultural Awareness and Understanding Workshop - National Reconciliation Week
Event description
Auspire - Australia Day Council WA presents a full-day Aboriginal Cultural Awareness and Understanding Workshop, to gain a deeper understanding of the history, values and experiences of Aboriginal people. Taking place during National Reconciliation Week - an important time for learning in order to move forwards on the reconciliation journey.
The morning session explores the impact of colonisation, the concept of intergenerational trauma, key cultural protocols, values and belief systems. The afternoon will take participants through a roleplay titled 'Exercise in Frustration', plus explore in more detail the concept of inherent bias, with the goal of moving your mindset from apathy to empathy, to improve connection and relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
This workshop is facilitated by an experienced and knowledgeable First Nations' Noongar leader, within a culturally safe and inclusive framework. You will have the opportunity to ask questions, hear different perspectives and explore how we can work together for a positive future.
Morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea is provided. Bookings close 21 May 2025 for catering requirements.
Thanks to the support of our workshop partner the Chamber of Commerce and Industry WA, we are able to offer discounts for not-for-profits and individuals, ensuring pricing remain affordable and accessible.
