Abstracted Seascapes
Event description
Abstracted Seascapes with Tony Coles
DATE: Saturday 11 October
TIME: 10am – 3pm
COST: $185 or $180 members
A wonderful opportunity to learn directly from renowned artist Tony Coles. Tony will introduce students to a new way of observing and interacting with seascapes and rock formations by employing dynamic multimedia techniques that include drawing, painting and montage. The workshop will extend students’ understanding of art principles in playful yet challenging ways - an absorbing process that requires observation, reflection and lateral thinking.
Students will learn to build up a painting in abstracted layers, with reference to the concept of a ‘layered seascape’. Drawing, painting colour blocks, tearing, reassembling and layering are all part of this active process. Students will explore mark making and energetic brushwork using a range of analogous colours based on mixing primaries. Looseness and abstraction are essential to this approach and will be encouraged! Tony will also demonstrate how to identify elemental forms to achieve balance, dimension and depth of field.
Tony’s method of teaching is very purposeful and motivating and produces exceptional student results. Join us for this fantastic workshop experience and take home your own abstract work of art at the end of the day.
