Access Rider Workshop

Our Advance Your Career session is dedicated to upskilling artists and arts workers with disability or who are d/Deaf on generating Access Riders.

In this online workshop, Michelle Teear will provide a practical overview of what an Access Rider is, how to write one, what to ask for and the kind of language to use. The session will cover:

  • The models of disability
  • The rights of people with disability or who are d/Deaf
  • Self-Advocacy
  • Reasonable adjustments
  • How to negotiate and have reasonable adjustments met
  • Examples of reasonable adjustments, example scenario

About the Speaker

Michelle Teear is an arts events and project manager, trainer, advisor, disability consultant and a visual artist. Her gestural paintings of wandering lines, flat and transparent colour are a response to living in remote landscapes on research trips to fully immerse herself in place. She has worked for not-for-profit arts and music events, in managerial positions, and as an educator for the visual arts. Through her role in Accessible Arts Michelle is dedicated to building an arts sector of greater inclusivity and diversity. Michelle was shortlisted for the Evelyn Chapman award 2020 and completed a residency at Bundanon in 2020.

  • Prior to the session we’ll send you links to resources you can refer to before, during and after the workshop.

All sessions are delivered using the Zoom online conferencing platform (Zoom links are provided following booking)
