Do you volunteer in a group or organisation which supports people in our community? Are you actively involved with people in your school, church or community group and sometimes find yourself listening to difficult stories? Perhaps you are an Accidental Counsellor!

It’s when we find ourselves in the position of helping others to cope with their feelings without having the professional training or qualification to support them. If you find yourself in a situation where someone displays a heightened emotional state of distress, agitation, anger, or over-shares personal information, what is the best way to manage it?

Becoming an accidental counsellor will help you develop the skills needed to respond effectively to distressed workers, peers, clients and members of the public. The course will provide you a practical framework for managing these concerns with confidence and provide the skills and knowledge to engage in challenging conversations and to understand why some people, as well as ourselves, respond in certain ways whilst upholding personal and professional boundaries.

The ARCVic accidental counselling course has been designed specifically for those who find themselves in situations where the person we may be working with is extremely flat, distressed and or emotional challenged.

Presented by experienced facilitator, Michelle Graeber, from the Anxiety Recovery Centre Victoria, this training runs over a full day and will capture the key skills of the Accidental Counsellor.
