Event description

As part of LCSA’s ongoing commitment to disaster management and recovery activities, we are pleased to be able to host an online Accidental Counsellor Training session, facilitated by Carolyn Cousins from Tuned In Consulting.

About the Training

Are you the kind of person that others just talk to?

Do you feel like sometimes you could do with a little more understanding of how to manage tricky conversations, both with others and internally?

Have you found yourself in a position with upset clients or visitors and wished you had a few more skills in calming, effective gentle questioning and active listening?

Designed for staff or volunteers who are non-counsellors working in Neighbourhood and Community Centres and community service organisations, this training aims to ensure participants will:

  • have an understanding key elements of listening styles, including reflective and active listening as well as mirroring
  • know how to recognise their limits and put in place good boundaries
  • be able to identify referral options and supports
  • understand their own ‘empathy neuron’ and self-care
  • recognise the signs of trauma (including anger) and some tips to manage out of a conversation
