ACHLR and ADSS Public Lecture
The Social Life of Death
The Australian Centre for Health Law Research and the Australian Death Studies Society will host Professor Alex Broom from the University of Sydney for a public lecture on 'The Social Life of Death'.
Abstract
As the social world changes, so too are people’s experiences at the end of life, with legal, cultural, economic and ecological shifts each playing a critical role in mediating our final months, weeks and days. Drawing on the experiences of Australians reaching the end of their lives, in this talk I move between their experiences of dying, and the social, cultural, economic and planetary landscapes which structure them. I frame this in terms of the need to care for death and dying, which involves remembering their value not just managing their complexities.
