Acknowledge This! How to give an authentic Acknowledgement of Country - 2023

This event has passed Get tickets

Event description

Today, many organisations, businesses and schools are implementing Acknowledgements of Country - and not many people know why. Most people read an Acknowledgement of Country off a script; ad lib one they’ve heard; or worst case scenario treat it as part of housekeeping. This token nature of presentation defeats the purpose of what Acknowledgement of Country's are meant to represent in the first place.

Rhys and Emma teach how to give a meaningful Acknowledgement of Country without fear.

Together we'll learn the first steps in how to create a genuine and authentic Acknowledgement about the place, people and position you’re in, how to articulate it (the words) and how to mean it (make it personal to you).

You will walk away with:

  • Deeper understanding of what an Acknowledgement of Country is
  • The purpose of each part of an Acknowledgement of Country
  • Your own personalised Acknowledgement of Country format to adapt for any gatherings where you want to Acknowledge our shared history.

Feedback from past participants:

"This was one of the best set up and most engaging professional development events I have attended in a long time and I would recommend it to everyone and anyone!"

"Thanks! Has certainly given me more confidence to keep doing it a bit differently (off the regular script)"
"Thank you for giving me the courage, confidence and permission to respectfully and genuinely deliver Acknowledgement of Country anywhere."
"It was both immediately practical and useful and rousing. I was able to share my key take outs immediately on a community Zoom call later the same day."
