Acknowledging Country in our mother languages
Description
Connecting cultures, supporting Indigenous sovereignty
In celebration of International Mother Language Day, the UTS Multicultural Women’s Network is proud to launch Acknowledging Country in our mother languages, a campaign led by Dr Elaine Laforteza.
Two years in the making, this project invites culturally and linguistically diverse communities to meaningfully connect with First Nations peoples and stand in solidarity with Indigenous sovereignty. It honours stories of language loss, revival, survival, and strength, and celebrates the beauty and power of linguistic diversity on Aboriginal land.
Join us in person for the launch of the Acknowledging Country in our mother languages project, where we will share:
An audio library featuring Acknowledgements of Country in 40+ languages
Stories and reflections from across the UTS community on the significance of this practice
A sneak peek of the upcoming podcast series
We will also share the voices of our community through a drop-in 360° immersive experience in the UTS Data Arena (approx. 15 minutes). Join us from Monday 23 to Friday 27 February, 1.00 to 2.00pm, to experience powerful stories of language, culture, belonging, and connection from participants across UTS.
