Acorn Harvest Training Session 1 (Alameda)

A hands-on training session rooted in Indigenous tradition and ecological stewardship. Learn to identify local oaks, recognize mast years, and harvest acorns with respect and reciprocity.

Join us for a field-based training on acorn gathering guided by Indigenous principles.

Together, we’ll:

• Identify Red vs. White Oaks using leaf shape, acorn characteristics, and bark

• Understand acorn growing cycles and the significance of mast years

• Learn proper harvest methods using low-impact tools

• Practice the Honorable Harvest: only take what is freely given

• Explore how acorns nourish ecosystems, not just people

• Talk about reciprocity, sharing, and what it means to give thanks
