“Malaria elimination in Vietnam: Achievements, challenges and way forward?” with Dr Ngo Duc Trang
Vietnam is making progress against malaria, with only 448 cases including 20 severe cases and 2 deaths; the parasite species distribution was 27.68% P. falciparum, 46.21% P. vivax, 25.22% P. malariae, and 0.89% mixed. in 2023. However, challenges remain for high-risk groups like forest-goers and border areas; approximately 4 million people are at risk of malaria. Key interventions include early diagnosis and treatment, vector control, surveillance, TDA and MDA.

As part of the theme "Malaria Elimination Efforts in the Greater Mekong Subregion: Last Miles Activities," this presentation will highlight the critical role of integrated Village Health Volunteer initiatives in advancing malaria elimination in Laos. The discussion will focus on how VHVs are essential to community-based health interventions, promoting timely diagnosis, treatment, and prevention in remote and vulnerable populations. By integrating VHVs into broader health systems, the program addresses challenges in the last miles of malaria elimination, ensuring sustained progress toward a malaria-free future.
