ACT Election Forum

Event description

The ACT region is battling the dual crises of climate change and biodiversity loss.

Mature native trees are being removed from the landscape at alarming rates, and developers are bulldozing our woodlands and grasslands for the sake of profit -with little consideration of the  affordable housing shortage.

The impacts of climate change, including longer, hotter summers, and extreme weather events, have already had wide ramifications. Our actions to avoid further emissions must accelerate, be ambitious, and be guided by social equity and climate justice.

The key priorities CCACT is asking candidates to commit to for a healthy environment and safe climate are available here

This forum will provide the opportunity to hear from candidates and ask them about their position on the nature and climate issues that matter to you.

Candidates are standing to represent our community, it’s important they know our community wants to end extinctions, stop runaway habitat clearing, build the missing links in our active travel network and ban fossil fuel advertising and sponsorship.

We will be joined by current ACT Environment Minister, Rebecca Vassarotti, candidate for the Greens; Suzanne Orr, candidate and Labor spokesperson for the environment; and Liberal candidate (to be confirmed).

Please submit your questions to candidates with registration. Note that final questions are subject to change. Questions may be combined or edited for efficiency.
