Activating your writer self with Shelly Beamish
Event description
Ignite Your Creativity at the 2025 Regional Writers Rise Festival!
✍️ Writers Workshop: Activating your writer self with Shelly Beamish
📍 Location: Moe Library
We all want to be able to sit down and get to work in efficient and smooth ways. Instead, we find ourselves procrastinating. Suddenly the skirting boards need dusting and they need dusting now! Cultivating routines and rituals, setting boundaries, and quieting the internal critic all contribute to entering into a writer's flow sooner rather than later. The writing activations in this workshop focus on reframing our perception of ourselves as writers in order to improve our ability to enter into our writer selves.
Dr Shelly Beamish is a poet and writer, holding a Doctorate in poetry and a Masters degree in professional writing. She works as a senior secondary English teacher and runs writing workshops supporting and encouraging emerging writers. She has poetry published by Westerly, Australian Poetry, Ship Street Poetry, Wingless Dreamer, Liquid Amber Press, and most recently in Oystercatcher One. She is also a published academic, writing and presenting about how poetry allows psychological trauma to speak.
